WP 6 Industrial Scenarios and Validation
The overall aim of this workpackage will be to evaluate and validate the outcomes of CUMULUS, including the certification models, processes and framework generated by the project, in pilot industrial scenarios and in reference to business, legal and technical requirements identified in connection with them. To achieve this overall aim, the objectives of the work of this workpackage will be to:
- Specify detailed pilot industrial scenarios for cloud service certification;
- Elicit and specify business, legal and technical requirements arising in the selected scenarios in order to drive effectively the development of the CUMULUS framework;
- Specify criteria for the evaluation and validation of the CUMULUS framework;
- Apply the CUMULUS framework in the selected pilot industrial scenarios; and
- Validate the CUMULUS framework in the selected industrial scenarios.
Description of work and role of partners
This workpackage will involve the following tasks:
Task 6.1 − Specification of pilot scenarios and requirements for the CUMULUS framework [Leader:ATOS] (M1 – M6): This task will be concerned with the specification of scenarios for the operation and certification of pilot applications in the two industrial domains targeted by CUMULUS, namely SmartCities and eHealth. Based on these scenarios, the task will investigate and specify business, legal and technical requirements in order to drive effectively the development of the CUMULUS framework. Special emphasis will also be given to requirements related to the deployment of the pilot applications that will realise the developed scenarios in cloud infrastructures.
Task 6.2 − Development of pilot scenarios [Leader: WELL ] (M7 – M26): This task will be concerned with the application of the CUMULUS framework in the selected pilot scenarios, namely the smart cities scenario and the e-health scenario. To achieve this, the task will develop pilot applications realising representative operations in the selected scenarios, deploy them in a cloud infrastructure, and use the CUMULUS framework to generate certificates for different properties of these applications, as dictated by the requirements specified in Task 6.1. For the latter activity, it will be also be necessary to integrate the pilot applications with the CUMULUS framework (e.g. to be able to utilise the monitoring components of the framework and produce monitoring data for certification).
Task 6.3 − Validation of CUMULUS framework [Leader:WELL] (M13 – M36): This task will be concerned with the evaluation of the CUMULUS framework against the pilot scenarios and the validation of its overall applicability. To enable this activity we will initially develop an evaluation model based on criteria and metrics derived from the scenarios and requirements specified in Task 6.1. Subsequently we will use this model to assess the merit of applying the CUMULUS framework and certification models in the pilot applications developed in Task 6.2. In the process of doing so, we will use various evaluation methods including: (a) experimental testing and analysis of the behaviour and performance of the CUMULUS framework when applied to the pilot applications developed in Task 6.2; (b) formal analysis and verification of the certification models generated by the projects; (c) evaluation of the cost and risk of applying the CUMULUS framework from a business perspective; and (d) evaluation of applying the CUMULUS framework from a legal perspective.
